Radar Cross Section Test Facility Gallery

Northrop Grumman released these photos showing their X-47B full-scale model being prepared for RCS measurements at
Lockheed's Helendale RCS range. The top photo shows the model mounted on the low-RCS test pylon, ready to be raised
into test position. Once the pylon is raised, sliding panels close around the base of the pylon to prevent reflection of radar
waves from the test preparation area back to the measurement antennas. The bottom image shows the model on its
transport fixture being carried to the test setup area. There, an overhead bridge crane lifts the model and positions it over
the test pylon for mounting.

The X-47B RCS model moving to the primary test station at the Helendale RCS range.  The below-grade roadway and the angled concrete banks help to minimize unwanted reflection of RF energy from the ground back to the antenna array.
